(Some members of the highway cleanup crew)
June's business meeting was well attended by 20 members and 5 guests. Guests were Assistant Disctrict Governor Bob Sharkey, GSE Team Leader Lucinda Enderby from Houghton Rotary, Rick Donohoe from Edward Jones, and Robert and Jim Lightfoot from out of town. Jim is a member of the LaPlata Rotary Club in LaPlata, MD, and he brought his brother Robert as his guest.
The 50-50 drawing for $70 was won by Amy and promptly donated to the Rotary Foundation. Thanks Amy.
After a round of Happy Dollars and a lusty singing of Happy Birthday to the June honorees as well as lunch, the president got down to the business of the day. Several reports:
1. The CLK Rotary had an attendance of 63% in May. We are on an upward swing so keep coming to the meetings. We need everyone's participation these days.
2. Andy reported that a good turnout for the highway cleanup made short work of project. Kathy Johnson noted that she was the only woman present; a bit of a challenge, eh?
3. Dan, chairman of the Tammies fund-raiser announced that four teams will compete in selling tickets: Keweenaw Crew, Valley Crew, Calumet Group, and Southside Group. The goal: All 650 seats sold!
4. Next year's officers are Jim Lowell, President, Tim Baroni, Vice President, and Joel Keranen, Treasurer. We are in need of a volunteer for Secretary. If one does not come forth soon, we will have to just elect one from the membership.
5. Our first annual scholarships were awarded as announced in the our previous blog. Both students will be invited to our luncheon at which time they will receive their award.
6. Our involvement in the "Hog Festival" is tabled pending further clarification of needs
Following the reports, the meeting was turned over to Lucinda Enderby, our District 6220 Group Study Exchange Team Leader. Lucinda gave a clear and compelling explanation of the Group Study Exchange program which is to take place next January 2 through February 2, 2010 in India. Attached is both the information and an application for team membership. Simply open the documents and print them out as needed.
Further information can be found on the Rotary International website: www.rotary.org or from District GSE Chairman Dennis Rader at 902-434-1133 or Dwrader@yahoo.com.
You can also contact GSE Tem Leader Lucinda at 906-482-6601 Ext 20.

(Ever wonder what Ole van Goor does in his spare time?)
